KID CHOCOLATE INTERVIEW

1) When was the 1st moment you realized you wanted become a boxer?
I cant recall exactly which fight I saw, but it was a Sugar Ray Leonard fight. That was the moment that I realized that I wanted to fight.

2) Is there someone you looked up to that inspired you to get into boxing? If so who?
Mike Tyson, His style and his presence in the ring as a boxer, it was fascinating to watch.

3) Which venue, have you yet to box in that you would love to fight in?
MGM Grand, I’ve fought in Las Vegas, but I want to fight in MGM Grand. I’m pretty open when it comes to fight venues. I told myself that I would fight in my mom’s bathroom with only 3 people watching even.

4) If you could make any fight happen with past or present boxers, what fight would it be?
I would love to fight Sergio Martinez because I just think that he’s out with the old and in with the new.

5)Which bout have you been involved in that you consider your best performance thus far?
I’m still looking for that dignified performance.

6) How is married life treating you?
Married life is it’s own fight within itself but I’ve been through it all. We are constantly working on our relationship, that’s really all I can say. It definitely brought some awareness to me, being with this 1 (not to say that I’m with others)

7) In your last bout against Gabe Rosado, many feel the fight was stopped prematurely. What’s your take on that?
Well, I’m not a ringside physician, I’m just a fighter. I go out there and do my job and unfortunately, he couldn’t continue/contain to fight, through that I walked out with a victory. Its not a performance that I’m always going to be happy with, but it’s definitely a fight that I can say I learned a lot from and I can use what I learned from it to be better in my next fights.

8) Would you consider giving Gabe Rosado a rematch? And why? (Yes or no)
I mean, I’ve never been a match maker my whole career in boxing, why would I act like one now? Al Haymon, and my team, Golden Boy, my managers they send opportunities my way. They haven’t presented me with a Gabe rematch.

9) Would you consider fighting Danny Jacobs in Brooklyn at the Barclays Center.
Again, I’ve never been a fighter that’s a match maker. I’m never going to say who I want to fight. I don’t make the fights, I just be ready for them. Of course, I would love to fight in the Barclay’s center. That’s my home and I’m just thankful to be able to go in there and put on great performances in that arena.

10) What division other than your own do you feel is the best division in boxing? Also what fighter do you think will become champion in the near future?
The other high division out there is, of course, welter weight. Let’s just say, Julian Williams, Terrell Gausha, Marcus Browne and Zachary Ochoa

JACOBS VS QUILLIN: BATTLE OF BROOKLYN 2??

There are mixed feelings about a proposed fight between two of Brooklyn’s most beloved fighters these days.Kid Chocolate, fresh off his win over Gabe Rosado is rumored to be possibly facing Danny Jacobs, who has made it all the way back from battling cancer on Superbowl weekend in early February. If this fight happens, and it looks like it will considering it’s Richard Schaefer who is saying it is being worked on, it would be another special night for boxing in Brooklyn.

I can totally understand the fans who don’t want to see this fight happen. But instead of looking at it as a fight we’d rather not see due to liking both fighters, consider it a celebration of two fighters out of Brooklyn we support and may the best man win! It’s hard to see this fight not happening at this point.Like Judah vs Malignaggi, this fight is tailor made for The Barclay’s Center in Brooklyn. The atmosphere for this fight would be surreal with the crowd torn between rooting for their favorite and most likely rooting for both.Looking from the outide, you have to admit it is an excellent fight putting two young, hungry and skilled fighters in their prime who are striving to be world champions for years to come.Kid Chocolate already is the WBO champion and had his major moment in Brooklyn last October 20 winning the belt that night against N’Jikam in a fight that had the crowd going crazy.Danny Jacobs who was at the world title doorstep a few years ago before his battle with cancer is back in contention for a world title.Imagine how the crowd would be during this fight especially if it’s on Superbowl weekend which is basically like a holiday weekend. Both fighter have said they want the fight so why not give Brooklyn another classic and showcase two of our best fighter…Danny Jacobs and Peter Quillin.

Check out our story from July when we asked if this fight was possible.. DANNY JACOBS VS KID CHOCOLATE..WILL IT HAPPEN?

DANNY JACOBS VS KID CHOCOLATE-WILL IT HAPPEN?

Imagine the Barclay’s Center in Brooklyn packed and going crazy with every shot landed between “Kid Chocolate” Peter Quillin and “The Golden Child” Danny Jacobs. This fight might happen sooner than we think as Kid Chocolate gets more impressive with each win and Jacobs needs better competition and is ready for a world title shot after overcoming the odds and cancer.

Kid Chocolate is on a serious roll.He is undefeated at 29-0 and has not been tested yet.He has beaten the likes of N’Jikam and Fernando Guerrero impressively in his last two fights at the Barclay’s Center. He has good power with 21 KO’S and also has the speed and accuracy to be a serious threat to any middleweight. The problem of course is getting these big names in the ring.Sergio Martinez   fights  on HBO and has not shown any interest in fighting Quillin. It would be a hard fight to make because of the networks but more so because Martinez has never had any interest in making it happen.Martinez is on his last legs and when he does get back in the ring he will likely go for a big money rematch with Chavez Jr instead of a riskier fight against Kid Chocolate.Golovkin would be a great fight  for Quillin.Quillin has said that the risk of the fight doesn’t match the reward it terms of money yet as Golovkin is still building up his name.Golovkin is building up his name fast with impressive KO wins on HBO.This fight can definately happen but it won’t be a real possiblity until maybe next summer or later. That’s were Danny Jacobs comes in.

Golden Boy has mentioned Jacobs as a possible opponent for Quillin recently. This fight right now makes sense.Since coming back from beating cancer Jacobs has run through his opponents. They haven’t been big names as he was building himself back up but never the less he has looked very strong and impressive.Jacobs fights Giovanni Lorenzo who is  32-5 with 24 KO’S next in August.Another impressive win by Jacobs and he should be ready for a big fight or even better a world title fight. So while Kid Chocolate waits for Golovkin to build his name up even more, would he fight Jacobs in Brooklyn in what would be a great main event that would get alot of attention especially on the east coast.I don’t see why not.It would sell out the Barclay’s Arena and would set up the winner for Golovkin in the future.

Kid Chocolate would be a favorite in the fight but Jacobs would be by far a tougher opponent than Quillin has faced so far.Jacobs has fast hands,a good chin and power. He would test Quillin much more than any opponent he has faced to date. This would be an excellent fight that would have The Barclay’s Center going crazy. And if Jacobs beat Kid Chocolate it would be a memorable upset..Jacobs beat cancer and he has a good chance of beating Quillin too!

KID CHOCOLATE VS N’DAM WAS A GOOD FIGHT BUT WHY HAVE A REMATCH?

Peter Quillin fought a great fight against Hassam N’Dam to win his WBO world title but was the fight worthy of a rematch?

When N’Dam signed on to fight Kid Chocolate there was a clause in the contract for a rematch and it’s being looked at by Golden Boy.But the fight won’t happen immediately so unless N’Dam can get back to his winning ways and stay relevant in the eyes of boxing fans don’t hold your breath on seeing that rematch. As much heart as N’Dam showed he was knocked down 6 times. It was very impressive that he kept getting up and fighting on but truthfully he never had Quillin in any kind of trouble. So is there really a need to see this fight again? Chances are Quillin would beat N’Dam again quite handily. The fight wasn’t close in my eyes so I just don’t see the need for it except that N’Dam has a rematch clause.

The chances of this fight happening are slim not only because as time goes on the fans that are looking to see the rematch will fade away.N’Dam won’t be on TV most likely and even if he gets a win in his next fight it won’t get much press.Quillin will move onto bigger and better things as he tries to get a big name in the middleweight division now that he’s a champ.Maybe if Sergio Martinez can not get the Mayweather fight he wants and Chavez Jr.wants to wait until next fall for that rematch,Quillin can grab that big fight. There are many interesting options available for Kid Chocolate in his next fight.
