TYSON FURY BEATS WLADIMIR KLITSCHKO REACTION BY ODHRAN CRUMLEY

tyson fury

By Odhran Crumley

Tyson Fury became the unified heavyweight champion of the world with an inspired performance to out-point the most dominant heavyweight of the 21st century, Wladimir Klitschko. The Manchester man dethroned Wlad in what will be perceived as one of the biggest upsets in heavyweight boxing, claiming the WBA Super, WBO and IBF titles at the Esprit Arena in Düsseldorf, Germany.

The movement of Fury and his confidence to put both hands behind his back to entice the champion seemed to baffle the Ukrainian who could not get to grips with the size or style of the Lancashire puncher. Fury who overcame a point deduction late in the fight to win unanimously on the cards of all three judges 115-112 twice and 116-111 frustrated his counterpart in a masterful performance.

The day began with controversy which ran until minutes before the contest threatening whether or not the bout would go ahead. Firstly the issue was gloves which was resolved, secondly the canvas was found to be unnecessarily bouncy and had extra layers of foam which Team Fury saw as their opponents trying to gain an advantage by slowing the electric footwork of Fury which bemused his opponent for twelve rounds was resolved before thirdly it emerged that Klitschko had illegally wrapped his hands without a member of Team Fury overseeing proceedings and he was instructed to cut it up and restart. This could be seen as an omen as the last time the Banks trained fighter had to do this was against Lamont Brewster in their first contest..

The challenger landed the first meaningful shot of the bout with a left hook in the second round which put it beyond doubt he had settled the better. This continued with the ‘Furious One’ impressively switching stances as the champion struggled to land a punch or bring his right hand into play. In the fifth round the champion was cut below the left eye by an accidental clash of heads and moments later a second cut emerged on the same eye as the sight blood running down Klitschko’s face gave the already confident Tyson even more confidence.

It wasn’t until round nine that the big right hand of Klitschko flush on Fury’s chin but it failed to dis encourage the soon to be champion of the world. In the eleventh Fury was deducted a point for punching around the back of the head which seemed harsh prompting fears of an ominous ‘hometown decision’.

However such fears did not come to fruition as the challenger emerged for the final session with gladiatorial qualities marching forward and landing looking like a man ready to become the lineal heavyweight champion of the world and he did!!Team Fury rejoiced as MC Michael Buffer cried out ‘AND THE NEW’ crowning Tyson and dethroning the Klitschko dynasty. A masterful performance from a man who truly deserves it and one things for sure the landscape of the heavyweight division has changed dramatically as a jubilant Fury announced that he would become the most charismatic heavyweight champion since Ali, exciting times ahead indeed!
