Finally, this Saturday night at The Barclay’s Center we crown The King of Brooklyn between Zab Judah and Paulie Malignaggi. Both fighters need this win to move onto to a possible title fight as well.If you break down a few aspects of each fighter you will see this fight in a different light.
Since 2010 Malignaggi, under new trainer Eric Brown and moving up to 147 has looked very impressive.Even his split decision loss to Adrien Broner which alot of people think Paulie won,he looked good and outworked Broner the whole fight.Malignaggi may not be as fast as he once was but he still is very fast, has great footwork, uses angles and his head in the ring.He is one of the best at ring generalship as well. Zab Judah on the other hand has only one impressive win since 2010 against Vernon Paris who really never fought anyone before or since that fight.Judah lost to Khan by KO in 2011 and although he came on late against Danny Garcia, to be fair he was totally outclassed in that fight.Just because he landed a few good shots on Garcia in the later rounds does not mean the Zab Judah from ten years ago is back. The point is Malignaggi has looked good consistently with no major losses in the last few years and Zab with the exception of three rounds against Garcia has looked past his prime.
In this fight I see Malignaggi establishing the jab early and landing frequently.Judah will try and establish his own jab as well which will make this a jab fest early.Malignaggi will have the quicker, more in sync jab though and score more.Judah will try and find openings for his uppercut and straight left but Malignaggi will stay away from both mainly by landing first.Judah will get hit with a ton of jabs from Malignaggi which will cause a cut on Zab’s forehead.Don’t forget it was Malignaggi’s jab that busted up Senchenko’s eye and Cano’s eye as well which put him in the drivers seat in both those fights. It will happen again here.Judah who is known to stray from any gameplan when things don’t go his way will get very frustrated not only by the cut but by Malignaggi landing the jab so much. This will lead to Judah taking more chances which will lead to more openings for Malignaggi. It will be an entertaining fight but a clear win for Malignaggi by unanimous decision.Malignaggi’s workrate, speed, jab and younger legs will win this fight. One judge will have it 116-111 while the other two will have it 115-113.All in favor of Paulie Malignaggi.
