This Saturday at the Armory in D.C. Goldenboy promotions will be putting on a stacked card which will include
a match for the IBF Welterweight championship of the world. The champion, with an undefeated record of 23(14)-0, from Akron, OH
Shawn “Showtime” Porter will be defending his title for the first time against former two time champion and crafty veteran from Brooklyn,NY Paulie “Magic Man” Malignaggi.
Both fighters are coming off of impressive wins at the Barclays center, Porters being a one sided beating of then champion Devon Alexander. Paulie’s win came on the same night, in the main event, in what was billed “the battle for Brooklyn” against Zab Judah.
These fighters have extremely different styles as well as being in completely different places in their respective careers.
Porter has just really burst onto the scene with his destruction of Alexander and grabbed a title while doing so. He has no other real credible or big fights that jump out at you. At only 26 his resume is just starting to take shape.
On the other hand, Malignaggi has been on the seen for a while now, and has fought some of the biggest names in the sport. He
has recently shown a new devotion to his craft and has really developed a completely knew technique to his approach in the ring. That added with his great chin equates to a dangerous opponent.
Another factor in this fight is that each fighter is represented by mega manager Al Haymon, and promoter Golden Boy. A win could land you right in the midst of the always tempting Floyd Mayweather Jr. sweepstakes.
We know that Paulie will use all of his tricks in this fight, he is the veteran and we expect him to use his overall knowledge to adjust throughout the match. In the end, we do see Porter using his same tactic that he did against Alexander….Attack Attack Attack. Porter will be the more aggressive fighter.
Paulie has never been KO’d in a fight, and we see this one going the distance in favor of the Champion “Showtime” Porter, by UD.
